Top Netflix recommendations for a perfect lockdown evening
If you’re living in a country where the coronavirus lockdown has just been extended, well, you must be going out of your mind (as we all are)! There is only so much one can do to keep themselves entertained indoors, especially when they’re accompanied by little children. And while we’ve given you plenty of creative ideas to keep yourself and your kids busy, it’s time to go back to basics and do the one thing we all kicked off our first few weeks of quarantine with: Netflix.
Sometimes you just want to sit down, kick off your shoes and feed your brain back-to-back episodes of all the series Netflix has to offer because it’s totes okay not to want to come up with activities and creative ways to entertain yourself.
So grab your popcorn/candy/crisps, and whatever else your tummy is craving, and click the play button to watch one of our top Netflix series recommendations.
Away
In one word, this show is beautiful. It’s more than just a story about five astronauts headed to Mars. The show delves deep into human relationships, focusing on each character and its backstory in a unique way. The series is emotional, very emotional, and keeps you on edge. The special effects are spot on and what makes it even better is the realistic approach this sci-fi production has taken. In other words, don’t expect to see any green men running around if the crew reached their destination.
Emily in Paris
Unless you’re living under a rock, you must have heard of Emily in Paris. This glam show is about a 20-something American girl who moves to Paris for work, where a series of crazy antics pursue. The plot is unpredictable and the script is oh-so-hilarious. One of our fave things about it (besides Emily) is all the hot French male characters! As for the fashion, my God, we wish we could keep every single item Emily graced the screen with. If you’re into clichés and croissants, this show is for you.
The Crown
You cannot have a Netflix subscription and not watch The Crown. Even if you aren’t so keen on royalty, the story of the British royal family is one that is utterly fascinating to watch, because, let’s be honest, who isn’t deeply curious about the way those super elites live their lives behind the scenes? Three seasons have been launched so far and a fourth is on the way.
Ozark
Deeply dark and disturbing at times, yet equally thrilling and addictive to watch at all times. This show is about a family of four that moves to a summer resort community in the Ozarks after a money-laundering scheme goes wrong. Now that they owe a Mexican drug lord heaps of money, their lives are full of danger, drama and unimaginable twists. If you loved watching Narcos, you’ll love watching Ozark.
Into the Night
Foreign TV series have been quite popular on Netflix and this Belgian show is no exception. Based on a novel, the plot revolves around a group of people escaping the sun after it starts to kill everything and everyone in its path. Now that the darkness is humans’ new best friend, they must fly from one country to the next to avoid daylight or they die. Snakes on a Plane has nothing on this thriller, where little fuel, language barriers and trust issues are just some of their biggest worries. Can they make it through the night and into safety? Watch to find out.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
OK, so technically, this show isn’t on Netflix (you can watch it on Amazon Prime) but we HAD to mention it. It is brilliant. It is witty. It is hilarious. It is addictive. It is everything a show should be. It is about Miriam Maisel, a 1950s housewife with the perfect life: gorgeous husband, two kids and a beautiful flat on the Upper West Side. However, she wants more from life. Miriam, or Midge, is a natural at stand-up comedy, which barely any woman did at the time, but she pursues her dream anyway while a whirlwind of events takes place in her personal and love life. Will she make it to the top?
