5 Mother’s Day Gifts for Grandmothers that Kids Can Make
Since Mother’s Day is approaching, and as moms, we are thinking of a plan to make this day very special to our own mothers, now that we know what motherhood means and feels like. There are a lot of gift ideas and cake decorations that you can order or buy from shops, but there is nothing like making things by yourself and better yet asking your kids to do them by themselves, right?
Imagine how happy a Grandmother would feel when she receives a gift made by her grandchild! Yes, a handmade gift is much more heartwarming than any other gift.
And to make it easier for you, we chose 5 simple ideas that your kids can do to create the most adorable gifts on Mother’s Day:
- Decorate a Planting Pot
For each one of your kids, buy a plain brown/white pot and buy some water or oil colors. Now, set a table and ask each child to draw, write, print whatever they feel like when they think about their grandmother. After they finish, leave them to dry then wrap them together with transparent wrapping paper and a nice ribbon on top…that’s it!
- Hand Prints Flower Bouquet
This gift idea is one of the cutest ideas. All you need is a good quality medium-sized white carton, some small green and pink cartons, watercolors, kid-friendly scissors and a glue stick.
Since scissors will be involved it is better if you can supervise the process. Now, cut using scissors green stems for the flowers, and some leaves to attach to them. Then, cut flower shaped cartons using the pink carton. After that, start gluing the stems together to look like a real flower bouquet.
Now choose which stems you would like to attach these floral cutouts to, and which stems you would like to use handprints on to look like flowers!
Ask each kid to choose a color of watercolors, dip their hand in their designated colors then print it on empty stems. Leave to dry and voila you have a really nice souvenir for Grandma! You can always put it in a frame and wrap it as a gift.
- Writing reasons on why you love your Grandmother
This one is for kids who can write and read. This idea can be implemented in many ways, here are two of them:
- They can write their reasons on small pieces of paper and put them in a decorated jar, where their grandmother can open this Jar to read a reason anytime she wants.
- Or, you can buy a canvas for them and some good markers, then they can write their reasons in colors randomly until it fills up. This canvas could end up on one of Grandmother’s walls at home.
- Decorated Kitchen Apron
Kids are always excited about what type of food their Grandmother is going to serve them when they visit, right? So, what is better than equipping her with a really unique cooking apron?
This one is really easy… Buy a basic white apron, some paint, markers, whatever suits this type of cloth. Let your kids paint, print, write do whatever they like with it, but remind them to write their names and a nice Happy Mother’s Day greeting to their grandmother!
- Bake a cake and Decorate it
Take your kids to the supermarket and start buying all the stuff needed for you to bake and decorate a cake together for their grandmother. While doing so tell them more about her, i.e. what flavor she likes, what are her favorite colors and so on. After that, go home and start baking together, allow them to get wild, and make sure each one of them was able to leave his signature mark on the cake.
We hope these ideas have given you some inspiration to throw a really nice celebration to your kids’ Grandmothers and even Grandfathers.
We Wish you a very happy Mother’s Day. Enjoy!
