This is quite a common issue. My main recommendation would be to choose the right time to talk to children about their day- usually that means not asking them about their day as soon as you pick them up or as they are walking in to the door. Give them some room and space and wait before asking about the details of their day. Another useful tip is to monitor what you are doing as they start talking. Are you actively listening? Are there other distractions, i.e. the tv, your phone etc that might distract you/your child? Be sure that you are making eye contact and listening intently. Be sure to vary how you are asking questions, the more specific the better. Avoid questions like “what did you do at school today” instead, ask about what the best part of their day was Make time for “talk time” with kids, this could be during meals or right before bed. Pick a time when you know your child will be more likely to share I hope you find these tips to be helpful
