How to make Shepard’s Pie with Tomato Sauce

Ingredients

4 med potato, boiled mashed with 2 Tbsp butter and 1/2 cup milk 1 green onion chopped salt, pepper, nutmeg 1/2 cup white cheddar cheese, shredded For sauce: 1/4 kilo minced beef 1 small onion finely chopped 2 cloves of garlic, minced 1/2 a pack of fresh button mushrooms, sliced (around 5 mushrooms) 1/2 a pack of frozen peas and carrots mix or any other veggie mix you prefer (this is about 1 1/4 cups of veggies) salt, pepper 1 tsp thyme 1 bay leaf 2 Tbsp flour 2 cups beef stock 1/4 cup tomato paste

Method

  1. Mix mashed potatoes with green onion, cheddar cheese and other spices and set aside.
  2. Saute the beef and add onions when starting to cook. Cook till onions are sofetened.
  3. Add garlic and mushrooms and season with salt and pepper
  4. Add veggies and stir for few minutes then add thyme and bay leaf Add flour and cook for a min then add tomato paste then stock. Cook for 10 minutes.
  5. Pour in your baking dish and carefully assemble mashed potatoes on top using the palms of your hand.
  6. Make some indentations with a fork or you can pipe the potato mixture in a pastry cream bag.
  7. Bake in the oven at 180 for around 20-25 min until nice a bubbly. Serve with a nice salad.
